UADS Decides 2025: Results And What Comes Next
The 2025 UADS General Elections recommenced on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM, an hour after the initially scheduled time following a brief delay caused by technical issues on the voting website. These issues were promptly resolved by the Electoral Committee, after which voting proceeded smoothly without further interruptions. The polls officially closed at 6:00 PM.
Vote counting commenced at 6:45 PM, and was overseen by the UADS Electoral Commission. In attendance were the Electoral Chairperson, Miss Ojo Abimbola; two representatives from the commission; a representative of the Sports Secretary aspirant; and a representative of Dentatics Press. The Chairperson ensured transparency by allowing everyone present to verify the digital results against the documented tallies.
The results of both the executive and senatorial elections reflected the unusual nature of this year's campaign season. Like aspirants launching their campaigns a few days before the screening, and some as late as the night before the screening. The absence of class-to-class campaigns, a longstanding tradition, even in years when aspirants ran unopposed, and no one ran for the position of Vice President.
The aspirant for the office of Assistant General Secretary, Mr. Adeyinka-Omoleye, was not elected, having secured 56 “Yes” and 38 “No” votes. According to Chapter 6, Article 26(m) of the UADS Constitution, an unopposed candidate must receive at least two-thirds (2/3) of the total votes cast in their favor to be declared elected, and their result fell short of this requirement. The aspirant for the office of President, now the President-elect, received 69 “Yes” and 28 “No” votes, just enough to meet the two-thirds threshold for an unopposed candidate. It is worth noting that the 2K26 class recorded the highest number of “No” votes across all executive offices.
With the office of Vice President left vacant and the Assistant General Secretary position unfilled, we now await a bye-election to address these gaps in leadership.
Congratulations to all newly elected executives and senators.
