UADS Decides 2025: Interview With Adelola Ayomide Abel, Aspirant For The Office Of The Sports Secretary

Can you please introduce yourself, your level, and the position you’re vying for?

My name is Adelola Ayomide Abel, a 500L student of Dentistry and Dental Surgery. I'm vying for the position of Sports Secretary in our esteemed association.

What would you say is the role of the Sports Secretary?

The sports secretary is responsible for all sporting activities organized by the Unibadan Dental Students Association. The Sports Secretary also serves as the chairman of the Sports Committee.

What inspired you to run for this particular office?

I've always had a passion for UADS sports, which has consistently driven me to contribute in every way possible. Over the years, I’ve seen how sports bring UADS members together across levels, creating lasting memories. But I’ve also noticed areas where our sporting events can be improved — made more inclusive, organized, and impactful.

Considering the current level of member participation in sports, how do you plan to encourage active involvement?

Participation in sports has declined in some areas, and I believe the solution goes beyond simply organizing events.
First, I plan to promote inclusive sports — activities that cater to both competitive athletes and casual participants. Not everyone is out to win medals, some just want to have fun. Secondly, we’ll invest heavily in publicity, using creative posters, player features, highlight videos, countdowns, and social engagements to build anticipation and hype. I also plan to work closely with class reps to identify and engage students who are interested but often overlooked.
