FASHION HIGHLIGHTS FROM AMVCA 2023
It has been a couple of days following one of the most anticipated nights in the Nigerian entertainment industry and we can’t seem to get over the effects of this glamorous night. The African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) is an annual event held to celebrate outstanding talents and achievements in television and film. This year’s edition being the 9th edition, held at Eko hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Hosting this award ceremony were the beautiful South African Model and Miss Universe 2019, Zozibini Tunzi and one of Africa’s leading media personalities, IK Osakioduwa. The event featured performances from top acts in the Nigerian music industry including Tiwa Savage, Iyanya and Spyro.
Asides being an award event, the AMVCA has become a highlight of the Nigerian fashion industry, over the years. Every guest has a goal of capturing the attention of the audience on the red carpet either by showing up simple and classy or creatively unpredictable. This year was no exception as we saw Nana Akua Addo show up in an elegant, floor length silver dress having 3D doves embroidered to it. This masterpiece was created by Cary Santiago.
Tacha showed up in a blue feathered see through gown by Tolu Bally. The ex BBN reality star sparked a lot of controversy after she gave us an insight to the worth of her dress. It screamed “I went all out for this!”
The co-host, Zozibini Tunzi stole the show in not one or two but three glimmering outfits by Lanre Da Silva.
For the males, Daniel Etim Effiong got our attention with a suit piece by Deji and Kola which had a black and gold jacket. He accessorized with a bow tie and the perfect shoes.
Enioluwa also made a fashion statement with a well detailed brown suit piece. He had blonde hair; light make up and of course his trademark lipgloss effortlessly bagging the award of the best dressed male.
Some celebrities in the bid to be creatively unpredictable went a little overboard with their looks. We had Ifu Ennada wear a three layered black dress which was attention-grabbing but not so appealing.
We also had Kayvee show up in what Nigerians would call “a show-back suit”. Although the aquamarine green jacket looked good, it didn’t need that opening at the back.
Also causing controversy on the internet was Emmanuel Umoh as he served flower boy vibes. His outfit was a dark green suit piece with an opening at the back of the jacket which he combined with an inner flowery dress.
It was indeed a night we won’t forget in a bit. These fashion highlights, the controversies they sparked and of course the awards all contributed to this year's outstanding AMVCA. And just in case you missed it, here are the winners of the 2023 AMVCA awards.
