41ST UADS HEALTH WEEK: RELIVING THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE CINEMA

Movie evenings are more than simply a night at the movies; they're an adventure. You have that one opportunity to relax, let your hair down, and escape into a fantasy, action, drama, or romantic world, as your heart wishes. But picture this: the crunch of tasty popcorn, and the excitement of a just-acquired movie. Movie night transforms from a passive pastime to one of the most immersive ones you can have. Let's take a look at some participants' movie night experiences in celebration of the 41st Unibadan Association of Dental Students’ health week.

Concerning the aim of the movie night, Mr Olalekan Ata who was the head of the movie night committee, stated that as far back as he has been a student, movie night has always been a tradition and the aim is to bring people together. He believed that many people would enjoy it and that it would be a form of relaxation for the journey ahead given an example of his set that just finished their Part 2 exams and would be having Part 3 exams in less than 3 months. He also stated that this was the first time a poll would be released where the movie with the highest votes was chosen. This was actually an innovative idea of one of his team members which he believes enabled people have an idea of the movie to be shown. The movie that earned the highest votes was PREY.

Dapo, a 300-level dental student stated that he wanted to be blown away by the movie, and at the end of the movie when asked if he was, he mentioned that the movie was "somehow mid” and he wasn't really blown away as he expected.

One of our freshers, Chineye stated that she came with an open mind but would have preferred to watch Charlotte or Avatar, regardless the movie selected was "very nice", and she enjoyed it. She gave it an 8.9/10 rating.

According to a penultimate year student, she stated that she didn't select any movie and that she was going to be totally fine with whatever was selected and as expected the movie was nice. She rated the movie 8/10. She was of the opinion that everything from the refreshments to the games to the movie was good.

Away from the dental students, Dami an MBBS student of the 300-level set came with an expectation of having a chilled movie experience and this was not cut sort. He however recommended that sound and every other thing should be properly checked for subsequent movie nights, as the sound was sub par initially.

Like Dami, Dara, an MBBS student of the 300-level class was approached and asked what her expectations for the movie are and she stated that she expected the movie to be interesting and full of laughter. She voted for Avatar and isn't sure if that was what would be shown because it was an anonymous poll and the percentage of people that voted for each movie weren't displayed.

Moving away from the UI students, Derin stated that she was invited by a friend. She also mentioned that the arrangement and food were nice and that it felt like she was in an actual cinema. She didn't have anything in mind when she was coming and the movie took her by surprise because the event was organized by students and so she expected more romance and comedy but it was something scary. She rated the movie night an 8/10.

From the various responses, one can say that the movie night event was a success and attendees enjoyed the overall experience. It is likely that future movie night events will be well-attended based on the largely positive feedback received.
