New Year Tenure Review: Interview With The Assistant General Secretary

Following a three-month hiatus in the official occupation of the office of the Assistant General Secretary, Mr Kehinde Aduragbemi was inaugurated as AGS for the 2025/26 executive tenure.

‎On interview with the Press, the AGS noted that he was called to serve solely out of love for the faculty as he was neither approached nor influenced by anyone to assume the executive post.

‎While it is noteworthy that Mr. Kehinde Aduragbemi was inaugurated after a round of normal electioneering process and two windows of By-elections, his inauguration came just after the last By-elections, the only one in which he applied for candidacy.

‎On this, the new AGS cited reasons such as insurmountable academic workload coupled with significant executive responsibilities outside the faculty -primarily as the Health Minister of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall- for not expressing his willingness to serve in this newly assumed capacity.

‎Regardless, the AGS has hit the grounds leaping in his office by meeting with the General Secretary to discuss their plans for the tenure and how to maximally collaborate to deliver the best Secretarial experience to the members of UADS.

‎The AGS alludes that he is undeterred by his shortened tenure as "the tenure is a long one and will be more than enough to carry out all plans for UADS."

Plans (Excerpt From Manifesto)

Academic Support System
‎Recognizing that academics are our primary assignment, I plan to strengthen members' academic performance by creating:
‎1) Peer-to-peer academic mentorship programs.

2) ‎Organized tutorials for every class.

3) ‎Online mock tests.
Additionally, I will ensure the UADS digital resource library is up-to-date and readily accessible to every member, providing essential lecture notes and past questions.

‎UADS Ushering Agency
‎I will ensure there is continuous functioning of UADS Ushering Agency. The goal of this agency is twofold: to provide financial support to interested members and to serve as a fundraising arm for the association.
‎UADS Database Agency
‎I plan to establish and maintain an updated database containing essential information on assocation members such as names, dates of birth, emails, and phone numbers, to facilitate a sense of belonging and engagement in the association.
‎Freshers' Welcome and Orientation
‎In fulfillment of my constitutional duty to organize the Freshers' Welcome, specifically for the 2k29 BDS class, I will coordinate a comprehensive orientation that not only introduces freshers to the association but also connects them with mentors who will guide their academic and personal development.
‎Health and Welfare for Preclinical Students
‎I intend to collaborate with health organizations to arrange stress-relief activities and health check-ups, particularly for preclinical students who are adjusting to rigorous academic demands.
‎Birthday Celebrations
‎Monthly recognition of members’ birthdays will foster a stronger sense of family and belonging within UADS. Personalized birthday messages will be sent to celebrants’ emails on their special day.
‎Leadership Summit
‎I will introduce a leadership and capacity-building summit where experts will train members in communication skills, project management, and professional growth, encouraging them to embrace leadership roles within or beyond the association. To enhance this initiative, I plan to create a monthly newsletter on leadership principles and their practical application, distributed to every member via email.
‎Plan Execution
‎1. Academic Support System: To enhance the initiative of peer to peer academic mentorship specifically for freshers, there will be a group of two or three where classmates will be paired with one another for academic support. This will be done based on their halls of residence and there will be proper follow up to ensure it is functioning.

‎2. UADS Database: A dedicated Whatsapp group, including all preclinical class representatives, the Special Duties Officer (SDO), and the AGS, will manage and update the database.

‎3. Leadership Newsletter: A co-opted committee will be charged with developing impactful articles on leadership for the monthly newsletter.

‎4. Birthday Celebrations: After collecting members' dates of birth, I will work closely with the Public Relations Officer (PRO) to ensure monthly graphic designs for celebrants are created and circulated.

‎5. Freshers' Welcome: Detailed execution plans will be developed upon assumption of office.
