UI 2024/2025 Session Begins: Freshers Resume On-Campus After Weeks of Online Lectures

Freshmen at the University of Ibadan started arriving at their respective Halls of residence yesterday, June 9th, 2024 marking the official start of the 2024/2025 academic year.

Prior to their physical resumption at the University of Ibadan, the freshmen embarked on six weeks of online lectures, which were punctuated with a virtual matriculation ceremony, formally inducting them into the university community.

When asked, by the Dentatics Press correspondent, about their thoughts on online matriculation, most of them said it was strange and didn't like the idea of online matriculation.

"It was strange having to attend an online matriculation. It didn't even feel like matriculation because there was nothing special", Ola from the Department of History.

When asked about his thoughts on the online lectures, he and others had this to say;

"I didn't attend any of the online lectures. The first day I tried to, I noticed I couldn't join the class because the carrying capacity had been exceeded. So I didn't bother myself for the other days."

"It was partially good. The problem was that only a maximum of 300 students could join a class. So you're most likely to miss a class if you join late."- Durojaiye Festus (Department of Anthropology).

"I think I enjoyed it, and I'm surprised by how much we were able to cover. We even had tests and assignments in some courses which I found interesting."- Mubarak (Special education).

"I attended a few because I lacked data most times. Generally, the classes were okay."- Theophilus Bomide (Dental Surgery)

"The online classes were okay but I'm glad we'll be having them physically now"- Anonymous

Also, when asked about what to expect as a freshman, most of them said they're excited to be resuming physically on Campus and hope to adapt soon enough.

As the freshmen continue registering for halls and making fee payments, returning students, however, can start paying fees and registering for courses today, June 10th. Campus reopens for returning students on June 17th, and the deadline for both groups to complete fee payment and course registration is Sunday, August 4th.
