End-Of-Year Conversation With UADS Executives On Manifesto Deliverables: General Secretary, Durojaiye Olanrewaju

UADS General Secretary Durojaiye Olanrewaju was elected on June 8, 2024 following a series of electoral campaigns. Dentatics Press reached out to her regarding her commitment to fulfilling her manifesto's promises, and to discuss her office's challenges and achievements. 

 Standard Mock Exams

Priority was given to the 300L preclinical class preparing for their first medical board examination(MB1). Plans for the mock exams are proceeding as scheduled and the questions will be sourced from a standard bank of relevant past questions to ensure adequate preparation.

Organizing the MB II mock for the current 500L class was put on hold. Feedback from members of the class regarding their willingness to participate indicated minimal interest. This lack of interest made it unreasonable to proceed with the mock for the class. The MBV mock for the 600 level class didn't hold, because the academic committee members comprising 200-300 level students do not have the expertise to set standard final-year mock exams. 

Monthly Newsletter

Apologies for the inconsistencies in sending the monthly newsletter, caused by unforeseen circumstances and busy schedules. However, two newsletters have been sent: One in September to account for the activities in July and August, the other in November to account for the activities in September and October.

Technical issues on the Substack website prevented the sending out of November's newsletter. The issue was resolved in mid-December. As a result, the combined November and December editions will be released on the first of January, 2025.

Updating Academic Drive

Note that the drive labeled “Dentistry” contains the updated documents, as there were complaints about incomplete documents in some drives. This drive, provided by an anonymous 600-level student contains materials for Part IV, V, and VI. A request was sent to the 600-level class representative, asking for the missing materials. Materials for MBII and MBIII have been uploaded, while the Assistant General Secretary worked on compiling MBI materials. More than a hundred documents altogether have been uploaded.

The speakers have been contacted, and plans are ongoing. The webinar will take place online in January, 2025

Academic Trivia

Three editions of the trivia have taken place and the third occurred on December 22nd, 2024. However, UADS Members' turnout was low despite prior orientation, public awareness, and promotional efforts. The 100L to 400L classes were specifically targeted, but the turnout remained disappointing. 

Challenges And Future Plans

The current challenge is the office lacks sufficient committee members to handle both secretariat and academic duties.  But this has not impeded the execution of duties as General Secretary. For plans, there are areas for improvement and they will be worked on. Details of plans will not disclosed to avoid potential accountability if desired outcomes are not met.
