Faculty of Dentistry Alumni Lecture 2024: College of Medicine, University of Ibadan
Dr. Aladelusi acknowledged the dignitaries in attendance, including the Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Ogundiran, the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Professor B. Kolude, and the President of the Unibadan Dental Alumni Network, Professor Gbemisola Oke, among others. Professor Ogundiran delivered the Chairman’s Opening Remarks, followed by welcome addresses from Professor Gbemisola Oke and Professor B. Kolude.
Next, Dr. A.O. Lawal was invited to present the citation for the Lecturer of the Event, Dr. Christopher Ogunsalu. Dr. Ogunsalu then delivered his lecture titled "The Radiology of Developmental Dental Defects Demystified." He dedicated the lecture to his late mother, Mrs. Esther Adetola Ogunsalu, who had the privilege of attending the first Faculty of Dentistry Lecture in Paul Hendrickse Hall, also delivered by him.
Dr. Ogunsalu used 27 radiographic images to explain a wide variety of developmental dental defects, including Dens Invaginatus, Anodontia, Dilaceration, Macrodontia, and many others. He concluded his lecture by offering a brief preview of one of his works in progress, where he introduced his approach to the Classification of Developmental Dental Defects—an effort that has never been undertaken before. He aims for this classification to serve purposes beyond academic use.
After the lecture, Professor Gbemisola Oke presented a plaque to Dr. Ogunsalu. Upon receiving the plaque, Dr. Ogunsalu expressed his gratitude, stating, "Receiving this plaque at the Unibadan Dental School is one of the most prestigious moments of my life. I really appreciate you all."
The program concluded shortly afterward, with closing remarks from Professor B. Kolude, who noted that this lecture was the first in a planned series by the Unibadan Dental Alumni Network.
