Loose me and let me go

August 2023, I came into your life, after being on your to-buy list.
O! The great joy when you picked me up at the store, and I bid farewell to my loved ones.

It was all mixed feelings as I was resuming University without even having prior education.
With enthusiasm, I journeyed with you from home to Ibadan.
So great a joy, it can't be explained.

The first time you used me, I knew I was meant for you.
Although, you added so much paste that it hurt my sight.
My Lord, I didn't mind because it was the beginning of a new session anyway
and your toothpaste was new and filled to the brim

The moment you poured water on me, what a great relief it was.

To you, I have been a faithful servant,
Serving you at every waking of the morning,
And the times you come calling at night,
I banished the plaques as a bold soldier,
And fought the battle on the sugar field.

Now, my bristles are thin,
my handle is weak.
Release me now from this duty's hold,
Oh dear student and friend,
Let me retire in peace.
Not when I slip off your hand and fall in that Zik bathroom.
Let me retire now!
Knowing my service was the best,
Grant me freedom, my Lord
Loose me, and let me go.
