Dentatics Press: The unveiling

Yes, you have seen the logo. If you have not, you are about to. You know or are about to find out that the Dentatics Press has a new, cool logo that is not only well thought out but also represents us as both dental students and pressmen. What you may not know is our history and what this new logo means to us here at Dentatics Press.

Dentatics Press was established several years back by some dental students who preferred to have a dental student association with a functioning Press body. It was not created to compete with other press organizations, but rather to provide a platform where dental students could report on what was happening in their department, educate others about oral health, and develop their writing skills.

As with any other organizations, the Press has had its ups and downs, but the most recent challenge was a long period during which we did not publish and were not active as a press organization. The backstory here is long, heavy, and filled with twists. The gist though, is that even the best carpenters cannot make wooden chairs without trees or wood. While we did have a brilliant, passionate Editor-In-Chief, in person of Adeniyi-Aogo Temiloluwa; now an alumnus, the membership of the press was a bit lacking. Following this was the period during which the already understaffed press’s leader was writing her final MB. The nadir went so low at this point, that we entered a black hole into the negative side of the number line.

The continuity of the press between the period of the former Editor-In-Chief’s examinations and the beginnings of the recent second wind of the press was an arduous journey carried on the backs of three, maybe four press people; men and women alike. Darkness finally descended when as with all people, it was time to part. The Editor-In-Chief passed her final MB and left. The press was leaderless and nearly empty. Writers thought and wrote but could not submit or be published.
Then, new beginnings after a long hibernation. Winter wore off. Sleeping trees grew, saplings took root, and the Dentatics garden was reafforested with the likes of Olajide Olamide (Writer of ‘Fighting the Injustice of Male Corporate Wears in College of Medicine, University of Ibadan’) and Abiona Michelle (‘SO, HOW DO YOU COVER?) and more unnamed prolific writers whom you’ll be seeing more of. All this happened because during the Press hard times, former member, former senator and current Editor-In-Chief, Oluwatosin Ayobami rejoined. He is ably supported by Alonge Rasaq. Alonge Rasaq is the Deputy Editor-in-chief. He trained under the former Editor-In-Chief. Old hands grew wings and an estranged family came home. Ah, reunions and happy endings, do they not make you weep for your life?

Regardless, we have bounced back stronger than ever. New writers have joined us, and more new writers are seeking to join us. Under the guidance of our current leader, new leaves have been produced . These leaves were those who wrote articles like “Cross Cultural Academic Strain; South Korea Vs Nigeria” and “For the Games’ Own Sake”. Dentatics Press is once again ready to educate, inform, and entertain you. Much like a tooth losing its primary dentition to give way to long-lasting permanent dentition, Dentatics Press has transformed.
This logo represents our new beginning and our renewed vigour. Are you ready?
