Sigma Club Organizes Health Outreach At The University Of Ibadan
The Sigma club organized a health outreach today, the 28th of June, 2025, at the Student Union Building(SUB) car park, University of Ibadan. This outreach, held every academic session, aims to promote health education and provide free medical tests and check-ups. It was conducted in partnership with esteemed organizations such as the Asido Campus Network, Colgate, the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, and the University of Ibadan Students' Union. This marks the fourth outreach initiative by the club this year.
The program commenced at 11:00 am with talk focused on personal hygiene by Dr. Adeshola Odofinof the Medical Women's Assocation of Nigeria (MWAN). Taiwo Emmanuel Ogunjobi, a 400-level student from the Faculty of Dentistry, also gave a talk on Oral Health. Additional sessions focused on mental health, reproductive health, and environmental hygiene, offering participants a well-rounded health awareness experience.
In an interview with one of the beneficiaries, Toriola, who got to know about the outreach while passing by, she shared her experience enthusiastically. She had different checkups, including blood glucose, blood pressure, HIV and Hepatitis screening. "There were no delays, everything moved smoothly," she said. In addition to the medical services, sanitary pads, and condoms were distributed, items sourced by students.
In an interview with the Chief of the Sigma Club, Toyinbo Ayodeji, he reiterated the club's dedication to social impact through philanthropy. “The aim of this outreach is to provide access to free healthcare for University Of Ibadan students. This is the fourth edition of the program. The first and second editions took place inside UI while the third edition was at Akinyele Local Government. Now, we've brought it back to the university, so U.I. students can enjoy the benefits of free healthcare. There are not many programs that provide free healthcare for students on campus. And as much as we are reading, it's equally important that we monitor our vitals like blood pressure and sugar levels," he said.
This outreach serves as a precursor to the club's 11th Public Lecture, slated for the 3rd of July, 2025. The lecture themed "Leveraging Technology & Digital Education for Mass Employment, Wealth Creation and Poverty Alleviation" will be held in honor of Old Chief Adesola Kazeem Adediran, former Managing Director and CEO of First Bank of Nigeria. Also speaking at the lecture is Dr Karl Toriola, Managing Director and CEO of MTN Nigeria. The lecture will take place at the Alumni Multipurpose Hall, University of Ibadan.
