Olajide Olamide Wins Inaugural David Adetula Best Story Prize (DABeS) 2025

In the vibrant world of student journalism, every so often, a voice emerges that captures not only the attention of readers but also the admiration of peers and mentors. This year, that voice belongs to Olajide Olamide, the first-ever recipient of the David Adetula Best Story Prize (DABeS Prize 2025).

The DABeS Prize, established in 2025 by Dentatics Press and sponsored by Dr. David Adetula, honours excellence in storytelling among undergraduate medical students of the University of Ibadan, celebrating narratives that combine creativity, depth, and clarity. This inaugural edition attracted strong submissions, each offering unique perspectives and showcasing the talent within the student journalism community.

Olajide’s winning entry, A Medical Student Trope, stood out for its compelling narrative voice, creative concept, and ability to resonate with readers. The story, while fictional, reflected authentic experiences and nuances of medical student life, drawing readers into its world with warmth, wit, and thoughtful observations. It balanced humour and seriousness, offering both entertainment and insight into the challenges and camaraderie that define the medical journey.
