Breaking Egg Like A Pro
In life, we all have our egg-breaking moments—those tasks that seem small but fill us with dread. For me, it was during a long school strike when I decided to attend a baking class to fill my time. While most of the tasks in the class were easy and fun, one always terrified me. Every time I had to break an egg, it sent a chill down my spine.
Each time I held an egg, I feared shell fragments would ruin my batter. As a result, I gave the egg the gentlest tap, which would, unfortunately, ruin my batter and leave it messy. This episode repeated itself over and over again until one day, my baking coach caught me about to give the egg another hesitant tap. She saw the way I approached the task and said, "Be confident! Break that egg like a pro." Her words were like a revelation. Instead of my usual careful taps, I took a deep breath and gave the egg a firm and decisive smash. To my surprise, it split cleanly in two, with no shell fragments in sight. For me, that moment spelled victory and a breakthrough. That simple, bold move didn’t just help me overcome my fear of breaking eggs but also made my baking process seamless.
Now, you might wonder why I'm telling you this story. What does breaking eggs have to do with classes and exams? Well, a lot more than you might think.
In medical school, we are faced with countless "egg-breaking" moments. Many of us approach these tasks with the same timid, careful taps I used on those eggs. We overthink, hesitate, and worry about messing up.
The secret is to approach these challenges like a pro. Don’t tap at them gingerly, afraid of the consequences. Take a deep breath, muster your courage, and crack them open with determination. Trust me; the results will often surprise you in the best way. You might find that what you thought was fragile is something you can handle with ease and grace when you have the right mindset.
So, as you walk through medical school, remember that eggs may be fragile, but your confidence doesn’t have to be. Don’t let fear and hesitation hold you back from taking bold steps. Approach your tasks with resolve and break them open like a pro. You'll find that even the most intimidating challenges can be overcome one confident crack at a time—just one crack at a time.
