UADS Health Week: The Unraveling

Ladies and gentlemen, UADS health week is here again. This is the 42nd event of its kind and it appears to be the best one yet. Here at UADS we are known for surpassing our past and limits. So get ready with me as I take you on a journey on what to expect for the 42nd UADS health week.

According to the schedule, we begin on the 13th with a picnic and
bonfire. However, the picnic was shelved due to one or two yet to be verified reasons. But do not be sad, the first day of the Health Week still has a lot to offer. Away from the picnic, let's dive straight into something spicier, a dive into party even more in what can only be said to be true to its name, the Bonfire aptly named “Spicy”. Speaking from previous experiences, this is a way to unwind the stress of pre-clinical and clinical school. Remember, what happens at the bonfire stays at the bonfire.

On Sunday, 14th April, we shall be observing the Sabbath at our outreach. Make no mistake, we are not heathens. We are the messengers of God sent to minister salvation to your teeth, healing to your gums and deliverance to those whom the devil has blindfolded that they should not see the way to the clinic. The CODEH outreach will be visiting the University of Ibadan to perform free dental check-ups and free scaling and polishing for your teeth. We are here to ensure you can go back and enjoy a good rest after we are done with you.

Do not worry you bookworms. We know you feel guilty for enjoying yourselves during the weekend which is why we resume on Monday with the UADS interclass quiz and the Professor Denloye Oratory and Debate Competition (PDOD). Now the quiz is looking very interesting after the newly minted clinical students of class 2K24 were knocked out in the preliminary round. This gave way for the preclinical class of 2k25 to find themselves in the final round. Will the clinical class of 2k23, 2k21, and 2k19 be looking forward to scoring a few points off the less experienced 2k25 class. Or will the 2k25 class pull another major upset and somehow end up in the top 3? You have to be there to find out. This writer personally sees a grim future for the class of 2k25. The PDOD competition is in its 3rd year and has been titled “Word War III”. This is no gross exaggeration. The last time this competition was held, it was a feast for the ears. This writer looks forward to another eargasm. Will the same orators as last year come and bless us again or are we in an era of new fresh talent. Again, you must be there to know.

Now that we have eased your guilty conscience, we have plans for your entertainment. Movie night happens on Wednesday. No need to feel bad about watching a movie on a weekday. It is going to be educative and fun but of course , mostly fun. The movie title is being kept under tight wraps so, expectations are up high. This is UADS, it promises to be a banger.

UADS did not forget you sport buffs. On Friday, we have our sports events. The football preliminary rounds was highly entertaining. The youthful classes of 2k25, 2k24 and 2k26 knocked out their seniors. Such blatant disrespect towards their elders. The clinical classes are looking to the 2k19 class to maintain their honour but the writer can imagine the arrogant, young classes laughing at the 2k19 class wondering why such old men have come to the pitch. Class of 2k19, this writer is rooting for you. Show these youths that with age comes wisdom even in football- that is if you make it past the semi-final round though. Board games such as chess, ludo and scrabble will also be available. Come around and test your luck with ludo, show off your intellectual prowess with chess and show us why you got A1 in WAEC’s English with scrabble. There will be something for everyone.

We meet once again on Saturday for the most highly anticipated dinner feast of the year. UADS dinner is nothing to skip out on. The 41st health week dinner was themed after the hit TV-show Game of Thrones. UADS members arrived in style only comparable to E! Entertainment red carpet celebrities. The 42nd dinner has been themed “MIB- Men in Black”. The only other thing that the Men in Black movies were known for other than all the action and neuralyzers was their dashing good looks. UADS members come in style.

We round off on the 25th of April with our annual symposium. Again, we are not here to play. This is going to be a symposium like no other. Even though it's going to hold virtually, the quality should never be in doubt. The theme is “Alumni Day/UADS Symposium: Evolution of Dentistry Over The Years”. Now this writer would like to tell you which speakers will be there but again you must be there so I shall not ruin your excitement by telling you too much. There are rumours that a journal will be launched. Is it the much anticipated Dental Digest? Again, you have to be there.

Well I have my week planned for me . What will you be doing? I can only imagine seeing you at UADS 42nd Health Week: Amalgamation; Bridging the Eras in Dental Excellence.
