UADS DECIDES 2023: PAST ASSISTANT GENERAL SECRETARY, ASPIRING GENERAL SECRETARY

On June 4, 2022, Miss Timothy Eyitanwa Eunice assumed office as the Assistant General Secretary of Unibadan Association of Dental Students (UADS). Within the past year, she has achieved a number of things during her tenure, notably the association's database, which was very lacking at the time she assumed office. At the end of her tenure, she had created an up-to-date database of every member of the association which has made communication and organization much smoother.

One of her plans was to organize tutorials for the 100 level class to which a member of the class claimed was helpful but was however poorly attended. Also contained within her manifesto was fresher's orientation and welcome which held and gave the freshmen an opportunity to meet a few of their seniors and learn from them.

However, some of Miss Timothy's plans did not materialize. One of such is the Preclinical Cinche with the aim of strengthening the bond between the association's preclinical arm. As regarding this, she explained that the Preclinical Cinche could not hold due to circumstances beyond her control, such as the ASUU strike and school examinations. However, it appears that it would have come to light if it had been properly planned and procrastination was avoided.

We did not get to witness personalized birthday fliers for every member of the association as promised in her manifesto. She explained that this was because the designers were overworked and birthday wishes were already being released at the beginning of each month Also, her innovative plan of providing yearly scholarships for indigent students of the association did not see the light of the day.

As her tenure as Assistant General Secretary draws to an end, Miss Timothy is once again running for a position in the UADS Executive Council - the office of the General Secretary. In an interview with her, she revealed that “I want to establish strong contact and a steady relationship with our alumni body throughout my tenure. Also, I want to create a system whereby UADS members feel more included and, of course, guard the secretariat to the best of my ability.”

On challenges faced during her tenure as the past Assistant General Secretary Miss Timothy stated a major challenge of sending out birthday fliers because different sets had exams consecutively and there were issues with people no longer being in a particular set. Hence, she had to keep communicating with the various class representatives, and not all of them were responsive.

Though running unopposed, Miss Timothy believes that she has a lot to bring to the table, further stating that “I have worked in the system and I have seen the gaps. A good leader is someone who identifies gaps and works to fill them.”
