NEXUS: 2K25 CLASS HOLDS POST EXAM HANGOUT

On the 21st of June, 2023, the first-year students of the Medicine and Dentistry (MBBS/BDS 2K25) had a hangout tagged 'Nexus'. The event which held at Heritage Park, University of Ibadan, created a form of reprieve from the academic workload and series of exams they have been subjected to in the past few weeks. The purpose being to foster a sense of community between the two classes as they transition into the second year of medical school and provide an opportunity for them to socialize and have fun together.

Though the event was scheduled to kick-off by 1pm, due to the late turnout of individuals it had to begin by 3pm with about 40-45 persons present. It started with a series of introductions of the class members which was proceeded by a sequel of games that included; passing the baskets, charades, catching the cup, and royal rumble.

In between these games stood beautiful presentations from some of the class members as they showcased their talents of singing, spoken words, and an amazing Saxophone display. As the event progressed members of the class present increased to about sixty five.

Dentatics Press spoke to members of the class to find out their views about the event;

Do you think the aim of the event was achieved?
"Yes, it really did. I have been able to connect with a lot of people I see during tests and exams. I have been able to know their names and related with them to a reasonable extent. On a scale of 1-10, I will be giving them a 7 for the planning and success of the event. The 7 is stemming from the inability to manage our time and from starting late"
- Fagbe Israel

What loopholes did you notice in the event and what area do you feel they could improve on?
"To be honest, I don't do picnics. So I can't pinpoint any loophole. Generally, the event was beautiful"
- Adesina Adedolapo
As the head of the planning committee, what was the most difficult part of organizing the event?
"The most difficult part would be fund raising. We didn't want to put so much stress on the class members, so we had to reach out to friends and seniors to make that possible"
- Moses Ojile

What was your favourite part of the event?
"I enjoyed the event as a whole but my favourite part was the game of passing the cup around and expressing yourself. And my second favourite part was the charades"
- Boma Brown

How did you find the event?
"When I first saw the flyer, I thought it was going to be the normal meet and greet stuff with no fun attached. But when I got here, it was the opposite of what I thought initially. I got to interact with most people even though I'm quite reserved. I must commend the planning committee for doing a great job in putting this together"
- Odunoye Mounah

What do you think about the timing and duration of the event?
"It was very nice. Even though they started late because of the late turnout of members, at least it was within a very feasible time and it ended in good time"
- Ololade Ojeniyi

It's no doubt that the event was a success based on the reviews from the attendees. On this note, the Dentatics Press wishes the MBBDS 2k25 class continued success as they embark on the second phase of medical school.
