Adelola Abel Seeks To Revitalize UADS Sports
It is no secret that the UADS sports sector has been less than optimal. Many previous Sports Secretaries have come with plans and promises to breathe new life into the various aspects of sporting activities that UADS participates in, particularly volleyball and football.
They have not failed; they simply laid the foundations that the current Sports Secretary is building upon. The current Sports Secretary, Adelola Ayomide Abel, has not only been active in recruiting members for both the football and volleyball teams, but also consistent in their training. The football training sessions take place at the SMLS football pitch in UCH on Saturdays. The distance has not discouraged preclinical members from participating actively in it.
Abel is also noted to have put Adeniran John, a member of the 2024 set, in charge of the volleyball team and training. Adeniran John is a very active member on the volleyball court in ABH, and he hopes to build a team that UADS can call its own.
Abel has also been active in developing a tabletop games league for the association. Currently, a WhatsApp group has been created for chess enthusiasts in the association. The group is led by Adesokan ‘Femzy’ Emmanuel, an avid chess enthusiast who is well known in the ABH chess circle. There might be some diamonds in the rough discovered through this.
On speaking to Abel, he said: “My vision for UADS football is to rebuild a strong, competitive team through consistent training, discipline, and a winning mentality. While we are putting in structured work to reposition the football team through consistent training, discipline, and teamwork, we are equally focused on developing other sports like volleyball, chess, and Scrabble. Each of these areas has great potential, and our goal is to create an environment where athletes and players can grow, compete, and excel. With the level of commitment we’re seeing, I am confident that the future of UADS sports is very bright and something the association will be proud of.”
Ibadan Dentistry has been consistent with her training, and the Sports Secretary confirmed that the team will be debuting in the new UADS jersey.
