COMUI Mourns
On the 2nd of March, 2026, the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan suffered the tragic loss of one of its students, Ifeloluwa Wisdom Akinmade. This heartbreaking incident has left the college community in deep mourning.
The situation has been made even more distressing by the absence, thus far, of an official statement from the College regarding the passing of a student under its care. The lack of a formal communication addressing this loss is quite concerning to members of the university community who continue to grieve.
Information surrounding the incident has, however, been reported by the University of Ibadan Medical Students Association (UIMSA) Press. In addition, several student bodies, including UIMSA, Unibadan Dental Students Association (UADS), and the University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UISU), have issued statements expressing their condolences and solidarity with the bereaved family and the wider student community.
The hope is that the College authorities are actively engaging with the family of the late Ifeloluwa Wisdom Akinmade behind the scenes, offering the support and compassion necessary during such an incredibly difficult time.
In honor of his memory, UIMSA, in collaboration with other student bodies including Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall and the University of Ibadan Students’ Union, announced plans for a candlelight procession. The procession will take place at 5:00 PM on the 6th of March, 2026, at the University of Ibadan. Vehicles to transport cinical students from Alexander Brown Hall have been organized.
It is hoped that this solemn gathering will provide a moment of reflection and unity, and offer some measure of comfort to the grieving students, friends, and members of the university community who continue to mourn this painful loss.
Our thoughts remain with his family, friends, classmates, and all who were touched by his life.
