University Of Ibadan Dental School At 50; Day 1

The University of Ibadan Dental School marks 50 years of shaping smiles, transforming lives, and producing world-class dental professionals. Established in 1975 with technical support from the Dental School of Newcastle, the Ibadan Dental School began with a single Department of Dentistry under its pioneer Head, Dr. J.O. Daramola, an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Today, the School stands tall with five thriving departments.

In commemoration of these remarkable achievements, the golden jubilee for the Ibadan Dental School commenced on the 19th of September, 2025, with a line of programmes which included courtesy visits to the principal officers of the University of Ibadan (UI), College of Medicine, and the University College Hospital, UCH. Other programmes included the community oral health programme, Jumat Service at the UCH central mosque, Press conference, Commissioning of Solar/Inverter System at the Dental Centre, and sports activities. 

The sports events scheduled for 3pm, Friday, 19th of September, 2025 at Alexander Brown Hall (ABH) quadrangle commenced with opening remarks from Prof. Ibiyemi. After this, at about 4:15pm, the indoor games kicked off. He announced that the event was open for participation to all Brownites. Featured games included Scrabble, Ludo, Checkers, Ayo olopon, Chess, and table tennis.

In the volleyball game, the Alumni team played against the Students team and the Alumni emerged as winners.

The prize-giving ceremony crowned the day’s activities, as winners received medals and gifts presented by the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Prof. B. Kolude. The event ended at about 7:30pm.
