UADS Holds Preclinical Orientation For The Xanthrons (2k27) Class

The Unibadan Association of Dental Students (UADS) Executive Council, through the offices of the Assistant General Secretary(AGS) and the Special Duties Officer (SDO), organized a preclinical orientation program for the Xanthrons(2k27) class on May 10, 2025, at the Preclinical Lecture Theatre.
The program, themed “Thriving in Preclinical Years with Balance, Excellence, and Passion," scheduled to start by 10am, began at exactly 10:35am due to an initial low turnout. The AGS, Ukaegbu Chinenye, gave an opening remark, which was followed by a talk from the first speaker.

The first speaker, Akinrinlola Akinfolabi, a 400L Dental Student spoke on “How To Become A stellar Preclinical Student." He mentioned ways to balance academics with extracurriculars, and the importance of studying with coursemates. He emphasized the importance of planning, creating to-do lists, and prioritizing the important things. He also urged the students to surround themselves with good friends and maintain discipline.

The second speaker, Bina Jesse Preye, also a 400L dental student discussed “Helpful Study Tips And Materials To Use In Preclinical School.” According to him, these materials can be gathered from what lecturers say in class, lecturers’ slides, and past questions collated in the association’s academic drive. He recommended textbooks and videos that can help with studying, and he concluded that the goal is to have a thorough understanding of slides, and how this is achieved depends on each student's unique study style.

The third speaker, Farida Oladejo, a final-year dental student, spoke on “Finding Balance: Mastering Preclinical Studies and Outside Interests.” She encouraged the Xanthrons class to maximize opportunities in medical school and take action toward the future, which does not center on academics alone.

The Vice-President of UADS, Okelue Amaechi Patrick gave a brief address after a question-and-answer session. The orientation ended at 1:23pm with a closing remark by the Assistant General Secretary.
